NEW BRITAIN, Conn (WTNH) – The creativity is contagious inside a New Britain classroom.
It’s team effort at CREC Academy of Science and Innovation.
“We now have five different teams, from grades 7 thru 12,” said teacher Dr. Robert Polselli.
To goal is to build a robot that can throw, flip and push better than the rest.
The robotics competition is a sport for the mind.
The minds of these students have led them to compete as some of the best in the world.
“Our senior team this year is regional champions, and last year, were national champions,” said Polselli.

Passion and teamwork have pushed the CREC Academy of Science and Innovation ahead of hundreds of other teams.
Polselli has grown the program from five to 53 students.
Getting the robots into battle mode brings a cross section of subjects into play.
“They have physics, mathematics, science,” said Polselli.
It’s sending students like Mirian Mathew off to college with a strong foundation and some valuable life lesson.
“Take a failure and turn it into a success. You have to take your failures and learn from them instead of keeping you down,” said Mathew.
