Students stepped up their game for round two of Saint Joseph Health System’s robotics challenge Saturday afternoon.

Fourth through eighth graders are able to be a part of the competition, where 200 students build custom robots that they compete against each other with in various games.

The winning team gets to be doctors for a day at SJHS in Mishawaka, plus they’ll get to nickname the new Da Vinci robot that will be used in surgery at the SJHS hospital in Plymouth.

Participants, including Nicholas Quiett and Jonathan Hickle of Intergalactic Mishines, say it’s great interacting with other students who share a love for science.

“We really like collaborating with other teams and just knowing that we tried our hardest,” said Quiett.

Hickle continued, saying, “We have a lot of other things we enjoy doing, mainly getting together with other teams and enjoying this and doing our best.”

The tournament has four rounds over the course of the next several weeks, and the next will take place March 23rd at Saint Paul’s in South Bend.
