Brentwood Academy students have earned the opportunity to compete against teams from around the world in the VEX Robotics Education and Competition Foundation championship.

The world championship, which will begin April 23 in Kentucky, will showcase the students’ creativity, engineering and teamwork through a robotics demonstration.

Five teams from BA will join Chattanooga Christian School, Franklin Road Academy, Jackson Area Robotics, Johnson County High School, St. George’s Independent School and Nashville’s Cyber Dragons to represent the state.

Students from Canada, China, Japan, Ireland, Lebanon and Puerto Rico as well as the U.S. will compete in the world championship.

BA has qualified for the VEX world competition every year since the start of its robotics program, according to a news release from the school.

“What began as a program six years ago with one team of five high school students has grown into a program of 11 teams with 50 students in middle school and high school, grades 6-12,” said Chris Allen, one of the tournament coordinators at BA. “The state of Tennessee will be well represented at the worlds competition this year.”
