Robert C. Byrd Institute will host robotics event on May 22 | News, Sports, Jobs

Speaking will be Rob Goldiez, founder and CEO of Hirebotics and a pioneer in service robots. Goldiez will talk about how companies can take advantage of automation to solve workforce issues by hiring a robot.

Jay Douglass, chief operating officer of Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing, a national Manufacturing USA Institute, will provide an update on the state of manufacturing nationally and how Advanced Robotics and its members are working to improve the global competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers through the funding of innovative robotics and workforce programs.

Also presenting at the seminar is Gary Daniels with Amtek Co. Inc. Amtek provides educators from elementary schools to universities with engineering, workforce and technical educational solutions and equipment.

The company’s service area includes Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Washington. Daniels will speak on new operator certifications for the new NOCTI/FANUC models of lightweight robots offered by the company.

The presentations will conclude with a look at how cyber security threats can effect robotics and automation by Bill Gardner, professor of Digital Forensics and Information Assurance at Marshall University.

“Robotics and automation are a large part of our local manufacturing community. As the technology continues to progress and become affordable, more manufacturers have access to its benefits. Our goal for bringing in these national experts is to help our manufacturers explore some of the options available to them,” said Jamie Cope, deputy director of the institute.
