DETROIT  (WKZO  AM/FM) — Kalamazoo has sent two First Robotic’s teams to Detroit this weekend for the Global Championships.

Of the 500-teams that will be competing at Cobo Hall and Ford Field from all over the world over the next few days, 90 of them come from Michigan.

Among the competitors the defending World Champion Stryke Force from Kalamazoo. The team includes high school and home-schooled students from all over Kalamazoo County.

They are ranked 22nd in the state as they arrived in Detroit.

Another team from Hillside Middle School will also be competing in a younger league.

The teams build robots that carry out specific tasks designed by the First Robotics organization. The robots and operators that perform best in the competition will take home the trophies and invaluable lessons on how to make things work.
