GCFS Exec. Director Matt Wakeham speaking to interested parents
Garden City Friends of STEAM and the Garden City Public Library partnered in their second annual “Robo Expo” event on Monday, April 1, in the Garden City library. Several teams were in attendance, including this year’s regional award-winning Taco Bros.
Back by popular demand, the Robo Expo featured several robotics teams, and, for newcomers, it did not disappoint.
Parent-run team The Taco Bros was cheered on as they talked about their upcoming FIRST LEGO League National Championships in Arkansas – a huge accomplishment. Matt Wakeham, executive director of GCFS, presented the Taco Bros’ coaches, Maria Zografos and Donna Krauss, with a GCFS grant to help offset the team’s travel expense to the Championship. All teams talked about their robot and answered questions from the audience. Younger students got a shot at working the big robot with the High School Vex Robotics team. Garden City Middle School FLL teams talked about their successful season. Newcomers to robotics were able to learn about the different opportunities and how to get a team started.
