Two Guam teams will compete with students from across the nation in the annual Texas Computer Education Association State Robotics Contest in Austin, Texas.
The Guam teams include 6th grade students from Astumbo Middle School and 10th grade students from Okkodo High School.
The teams were selected in January during the first TCEA Area Robotics Contest. Astumbo Middle School garnered 1st place in the intermediate division and Okkodo High School nabbed the top spot in the advanced division.
The Guam students will test their robotic skills against other U.S. teams at Del Valle High School in Austin, Texas on April 27. They are tasked to make toys using Automated Guided Vehicles that will sort packaging while building and moving products.
Guam Department of Education College Pathway STEM program is excited to participate in this year’s competition, according to a GDOE release.
“It will be exciting to see our Guam teams put their problem-solving skills to the test as they attempt to complete each task on the game field,” GDOE Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum
and Instructional Improvement Joe Sanchez said. “Participating in robotics competitions is a fun way to engage our students in STEM learning.”
