The Magnolia Junior High Robotics team recently participated in the 2019 CREATE U.S. Open Championship. The competition was held in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 2-3, 2019. Through their successes at state level competitions, the MJHS team was invited to the U.S. Open. This competition has grown into one of the largest robotics tournaments in the world.

Competing in the championship were eighty-seven teams from across the United States and various schools from countries across the globe including Hong Kong, China, and Canada.

Over the two days of competition there were 336 rounds completed. The MJHS team scored personal bests during this competition, scoring better than they have at any competition during the 2018-2019 season.

While attending this competition, MJHS students were able to work with other teams to solve STEM related problems as they worked to improve their robots. MJHS students also collaborated with other schools during competition rounds to create strategies with the goal to score the highest points possible. The MJHS team was paired with teams that included schools from Livingston, New Jersey; Arcadia, Indiana; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Marcola, Oregon; Lake Village, Arkansas; Miami, Florida; and McLean, Virginia

The participating students are extremely grateful that MJHS has a robotics team that they can be a part of, and all the opportunities that it has presented.

Students participating were Gabriel Garcia, Chloe Lister, Ally Chambliss, Shakayla Sears-Frazier, and Peyton Creech. The attending sponsors were Texas Long, Teresa James, and Marissa Youngblood.
