Stan is Stanley Robotic's automated valet parking system

Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport has implemented the first automated outdoor parking lot in the world, following the official premiere of Stanley Robotic’s parking robot, Stan.

On arrival at the airport, drivers park their vehicle in a garage, validate their parking reservation, and leave to catch their flight (taking their car keys away with them). From this point, Stan, the parking robot, transports the vehicle from the garage to the lot. Once the driver returns, Stan retrieves the vehicle and returns it to the garage where the driver is waiting.

Since testing started last June, four Stan robots are now fully operational in the car park, which can accommodate up to 500 vehicles. And, the airport is already looking to expand this system to up to 6,000 spaces in total.

Of course, Stan has many benefits, including creating 50% more spaces in the parking lot, as block parking can be implemented.
