Sheboygan Lutheran High School plans expansion

The board of directors at Sheboygan Lutheran High School voted on Feb. 18 to begin construction of a worship and fine arts center to be known as the Faith and Leadership Center.

Sheboygan Lutheran High has over 50 students registered for next year’s freshman class, which is the largest since 2012. The board approved the expansion with the understanding that in today’s more competitive market for students, the school needs to stay relevant.

The school’s science wing also will undergo a renovation to provide cutting-edge science classrooms and educational opportunities.

The new building will include a robotics lab, computer lab, greenhouse and music instruction suite. The balance of the addition includes a 600-seat auditorium, meeting room and lobby area.

The science area remodel will be completed by the start of the 2019-20 school year, while the rest of the project is scheduled to be completed by June 2020.

LTC named to list of military friendly schools for 10th consecutive year

Lakeshore Technical College has been named to the Military Friendly Schools list for the 10th consecutive year by Viqtory, a media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.

LTC earned a 2019-20 Silver Award designation which recognizes the 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

LTC routinely works with County Veterans Services, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and the Federal VA to ensure veterans have every available resource to be successful. LTC’s newest military-friendly effort is that veterans are now eligible to receive up to nine credits for prior learning. The credits apply to specific courses and are based on years of service and honorable discharge.

At the state level, LTC processes National Guard tuition grant applications, retraining grant applications for veterans who are dislocated workers and VetEd reimbursement grants. Through the Wisconsin GI Bill, veterans and their dependents are able to apply for tuition and material fee waivers.

LTC processes federal benefits for eligible veterans and dependents. Over 100 students are served on an annual basis in this program. Also, the Veterans Priority Registration program allows any veteran with an honorable discharge to receive priority registration privileges.

On Feb. 26, Random Lake High School student Jacob Sagal, surrounded by family and friends, accepted the Lakeland University Scholars Scholarship. As one of four recipients this year, Sagal will receive a full tuition scholarship to Lakeland University.
