GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Girard’s robotics team has again qualified for the World Championships.

The championship competition will be held in Detroit in April. 

The team went into playoffs as the number-3 seed, and finished second of 64 teams, according to Coach Judy Barber. 

The team also earned the Engineering Inspiration Award, which “celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.”

The Girard RoboCats will next compete at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional at the University of California in California, Pa. on March 21-23 and at the Buckeye Regional at Cleveland State University on March 28-30.

They’re working to raise funds for their trips. 

Upcoming fundraisers for the team include a “Night at the Races” at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Girard Knights of Columbus. Admission is free and light snacks will be provided, but there is a basket raffle, 50/50 and a cash bar.

The team will also be selling hanging baskets from Sikora Gardens, which will be delivered May 9, in time for Mother’s Day.

Before departing for the World Championship, the team will hold a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 7 at the Girard IFH Club.
