GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)– Some District 51 teachers played with robots today, as part of new curriculum to teach kids the ways of the future.

Teachers met up for a workshop to learn new software, and how use the robots, called “Cue.”

A big emphasis was block programming, or programming the robots with groups of instructions.

District 51 is working to create robotics learning tracks starting in Kindergarten, all the way through 12th grade.

Teachers hope their students will get excited about the new curriculum.

“I actually think its the problem solving and the persistence. When its something fun like this, my kids don’t give up, they’ll keep trying over and over until they get it. And for them its fun, they don’t realize they are learning a skill they’ll need in every job,” said Teacher at Bookcliff Middle School, Val Coniff.

Every D51 Middle School will get a set of 8 robots, and some plan to use the curriculum from mindSpark Learning and code.org after Spring Break.
