Pupils at a north Norfolk high school have celebrated winning the chance to compete in an international robotics festival.



Three students at Alderman Peel High School (APHS), in Wells, will take part in the Robotex International Festival in Estonia this winter, which could see them scoop a 100,000 Euro prize.

Archie Johnson and Will Beamish, in Year Eight, and Henry Parkes, in Year Seven, are all members of the APHS Lego Robotics Club, which was founded in September after resources were donated to the school by the Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm.

Sonia Chirico Indrebø, power plant manager of Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm, said: “I believe among the many students who have taken part in the robotics competition are tomorrow’s engineers, vital to the future success of many industries.

“Norfolk is now a hub for the UK offshore wind industry, a sector which will continue to offer career opportunities for many years to come.”

Alastair Ogle, APHS principal, added: “We are all really grateful to Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm for sponsoring these activities and thanks to all the staff involved, for the time they volunteer outside of school hours to support the students.”

The school’s robotics club has seen students developing robots in order to compete in various competitions.

The trip to Estonia, which will take place in November and December 2019, is also sponsored by the Dudgeon Community Fund where the students and their robots, named Uncle Grunkle and Derek will compete against international competitors.
