The National Baking Company Foundation last Friday handed over a cheque valued at $3.8 million to the Jamaica College Robotics Club.

The donation will cover the team’s accommodation and travel expenses at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Championships in Houston, Texas from April 17 to 20.

The Jamaica College Robotics Club is the only team from Jamaica and the Caribbean at the competition. The boys will vie for the prestigious Inspire Award which would provide opportunities to secure scholarships from local and international universities.

The US-based not-for-profit organization, First, is designed to provide youth with the opportunity to innovate programs that will eventually motivate them to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and math, all whilst boosting their self-confidence, knowledge and life skills.
