Six Claremore teams competed in the largest Oklahoma robotics competition before the state championships this weekend, VEX Robotics hosted at Will Rogers Junior High.

Claremore teams 8634B and 8634E prepare their robots for the 15 second autonomous portion of the semifinals.
The high school team, with their robot CatDog, won the visionary and design awards, but did not score well enough in the first half of the day to move on to the tournament.
The team did qualify for state, however, by winning the excellence award in a previous competition.

Team 8634A was one of the few robots at competition who could score additional points by placing the caps on the poles around the field.

Team 8634C waits in the wings to compete in the semifinals.

Junior high team 8634B won the design award for the engineering and design of their robot MilkCramps.
The visionary award is given to the team with the most imaginative design and the design award is given to the team that shows engineering prowess in how they designed their robots, kept their notes and answered interview questions about their design.
Four of the five Will Rogers Junior High teams continued into tournament.
Team 8634A was disqualified in the quarterfinals for intentional pushing in a match affecting way.
Team 8634C lost in the semifinals after being pushed off the six-point center platform at the last second.
Teams 8634E and 8634B, who were working together, lost in the semifinals because, despite working together to hold onto the center platform, they did not turn enough caps or flags to win the round.
Teams 8634B won the design award with their robot MilkCramps.
Instructor and Coach David Isenbart is optimistic about his high school students’ chances going into state, and said he was more than proud of the hard work his junior high students put in.
Students spent the whole academic year building their robots.
“They want to be here and they are driven,” he said.

Apollo, the robot of team 8634C, made it to the six-point center platform in the semi-finals, but was knocked off by opposing robots.
